APPROPRIATIONS

Gosford & Wyong - Cancer Day Units

In conjunction with the Tour de Rocks, we have donated four Continuous Ambulatory Delivery Device (CADD) pumps to Gosford and Wyong Hospital’s Cancer Day Units.

CADD pumps are worn like “bumbags” and slowly infuse treatment over a prescribed period of time, allowing patients diagnosed with cancer to receive chemotherapy at home.

“We are grateful to Coastal Cruisers for this very generous donation,” Leanne Cowie, Nurse Manager, Cancer Services, Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) said.

“These CADD pumps are more than just pieces of equipment. They mean more mobility and independence for people during their cancer journey.”

One of the key purposes of the Coastal Cruisers is to obtain appropriations / funding for local groups and organisations. This funding will hopefully enable them to purchase needed equipment and services to help those suffering with cancer, those who have recovered and their families. We are always looking for groups to help.

Gosford Hospital Oncology Ward

The chair offers patients support, comfort and pressure care with water and memory foam cushions. It is also very easy to move around and convert into different positions.

CCLHD Nurse Manager Cancer Services Leanne Cowie thanked the Coastal Cruisers for their generosity and said the specially designed chair would be hugely beneficial, particularly for the less mobile patients.

“This is a really exciting piece of equipment for our oncology ward as we currently do not have a mobile chair like this,”

“This chair will allow our patients the freedom to move around the ward with greater ease to access the family room and see different scenery from the eight storey windows. “It is extremely comfortable, light-weight to move and the tilt mechanism enables the chair to tilt forward to help people to their feet and it reclines back into a bed position.”
